How to decrease the size of a mounted file system ?

Hi all !

I've read on the hp-ux manual that it's possible to reduce the size of a mounted file system via Jfs commands. Is it true ? How can I do it ?

Regards,
Augusto.

fsadm -F vxfs -b newsize /myfilesys; You can then reduce the size of the LVOL using lvreduce. Man fsadm_vxfs, lvreduce for details.

Warning: Older versions of OnlineJFS sometimes corruptted data attempting this operation. I would make sure that I was running version 4 or greater vxfs and was up to date on patches AND that I had a good backup.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Thanks Clay. My Jfs version is 3.1 and I think it's not a good idea to try it.

It is definitely not a good idea to try it.

Better to back up the data, remove the logical volume, create a replacement, newfs and restore the data. That process avoids the pitfalls.
