HP Advanced Disk Array

I added 2 disks to an HP Model 30 AutoRAID Disk Array. Running RAID 5. Ever since I have been getting balancing messages in my syslog.

"Sep 8 00:47:33 hp6 syslog: HP Advanced Disk Array serial number 00000013CBCE: B
alance in progress: Product Revision: HP60: Product ID: C5447A
Sep 8 00:52:35 hp6 syslog: HP Advanced Disk Array serial number 00000013CBCE: B

In Grid Manager, I don't see any errors or problems, everything is up and ok. The lights on the disks are blinking like they should be.

Any suggestions, of what to do or where to look?

Re: HP Advanced Disk Array

Looks like your array is moving data around in the background from Raid5 to Raid0/1, which is a feature of Autoraids. The only way I believe to stop it is to allocate your entire space on the array to some vg/lvol. That way the array has no spare space left to move data around just becuase it thinks its more efficient for it to be Raid whatever.

So is that ok...no big deal, or should I look into it?

It will be affecting the performance of the array because its moving data around, I would allocate all the space on the array to stop it.

Hi,
Just look at the mails at the
root login.

Is there any mail related to the
Raid or the hardware problems?

If not,No problem in the Raid activities

Arm-daemon usually sends mail if any
H/W problem.
