HP Common Desktop Environment
My system has got HP CDE installed on it, and whenever I reboot it it shows up on the HP CDE login page.
The root password which is correct doesn't work as the page keeps coming back to the same page, and there are also options such as for a command line login.
However, when I try to access this option it is greyed out.
Why???
Please help as this is so frustrating

Re: HP Common Desktop Environment
Most commen problem is hostname/ip-address resolution.
Try
# nslookup hostname-of-server
# nslookup ip-of-server
above outputs should match.
files to look at;
/etc/hosts
/etc/rc.config.d/netconf
/etc/nsswitch.conf
/etc/resolv.conf

Robert-Jan

Re: HP Common Desktop Environment
But that is the problem, I am unable to access the command line because the option is greyed out from the main menu.
The system constantly goes to the HP CDE login page automatically.......

Re: HP Common Desktop Environment
You can telnet from any other system on network or you can boot single user mode and check the files mentioned above.
stop the autoboot, boot pri , say yes for interact with ISL and hpux -is at ISL prompt. Correct the issues and reboot.

RD

Re: HP Common Desktop Environment
I would recommend you install the CDE patchset
http://www1.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/searchHPUXPatchSet.do?BC=main|
to isolate this issue, usually the patch will fix the issue.
