Re: HP JetDirect
It is installed under /opt/hpnpl. Try running /opt/hpnpl/bin/hppi. It is an interactive script for printer/spooler administration.
man hppi for more details.

Re: HP JetDirect
just do #hppi to get the menu and go to this :
choose
1) Spooler Administration (super-user only)
choose
1) Add printer to local spooler
Enter the network printer name or IP address (q - quit):
if you install the jetadmin and not jetdirect you will need to press #jetadmin to get the menu

Re: HP JetDirect
jetdirect is the same software like jetadmin , just jetadmin is not morer supported .
in jetadmin you oper it with #jetadimn
in jet-direct you oper it with #hppi
after you have define a network printer ( this software is to define a network printer !!!)
you can do a test with the command :
# lp -dname_of_printer /etc/hosts
name_of_printer - the name that you gave to the printer when you define it in the jet-direct software .
the name of the printer need to be like you see it in the lp command .
if you have other que. please ask

Re: HP JetDirect
well , i did a test in my system and i got this erorr that you are getting : The spooler is already not running ...
only when i have stop the scheduler it happen
but this is not an issue , you can continue with defining the printer .
so you need to double check it .
again maybe you didnt download the rigth software , please download it from :

Re: HP JetDirect
If you check your directory
/var/spool/lp after the lpshut command
and you find these files
prw------- 1 lp lp 0 Sep 18 14:53 CLD_FIFO
prw------- 1 lp lp 0 Sep 18 14:53 FIFO
-rw-r----- 1 lp lp 0 Sep 16 13:28 SCHEDLOCK
you should remove them.
These files lock the spooler.
pls check HP page for documentation of jetdirect.

Re: HP JetDirect
You can't use the jet admin commands...
Here's some more tips:
Label Printers:
We have a few Lexmark 2390 plus printers.
The Lexmark driver package must be installed first.
The file to download from http://drivers.lexmark.com/ is DRIVERS-HPUX1X.PKG.Z
uncompress it then swinstall it.
It will install "Lexmark Enhanced Printer Drivers Package" and "Lexmark Screen Fonts Package". After completion, run: /opt/lexmark/setup.print (use the default of bin for Administrative group, and install fonts as an additional font directory.
Then use lexprt program to add queues.
See Enhanced Printer Drivers for UNIX Systems for more information.
Here's a sample session:
Lexmark Enhanced Printer Drivers for UNIX(R) Systems. Version 4.6
