HP UX 11i NIS Client

Hi everybody,

I put a new operating system on a server on Friday (from HP UX 10.20 to 11i). I spent the whole of yesterday getting the non-root disc on line and am now turning my attention to the networking.

I have a complete copy of the old root disc in a safe place on the non-root disc. Can anyone give me a comprehensive list of files I need to copy from the safe place to the new root filesystem? I've copied or manually amended several files but still cannot log in remotely (I can log in at the server console).

Any help appreciated.

Re: HP UX 11i NIS Client

Hi Mark,

The easiest way to configure the network part is to run the command set_parms

# set_parms initial

Hope this helps,

Re: HP UX 11i NIS Client

Thanks Robert-Jan.

There were a couple of incorrect settings (I compared it with a working server) so I've now corrected them, but still cannot login from a remote system. Strangely enough, I can telnet to other systems from the one with the problem.

Do these changes need a reboot to take effect? I didn't try that, as I would have expected it to tell me if I needed to reboot.

Hi Mark,

Yes sorry you need a reboot.

Re: HP UX 11i NIS Client

What user are you trying to use? How far does a telnet go when you try to connect to the new server? Perhaps /etc/securetty is one of your problems.
Also, after the set_parms, have you rebooted? Or at least gave inetd a restart/HUP signal? Are the daemons enabled in /etc/inetd.conf?
Could it be that inetd.sec is (wrongly) setup?

Every problem has at least one solution. Only some solutions are harder to find.

Re: HP UX 11i NIS Client

Thanks everyone - I'm now in. The users are still unable to access, but I thinks that's a system admin problem rather than networking, so I've gone back over to the system admin forum. See you there.
