HP-UX Printing

After installing security fixes in a HP-UX 10.20 workstation, i cannot add any more network printers. using HPPI the printer is added and appears to function. the first print job sent to the printer disables the printer and alters the accept jobs becomes disabled. when you execute lpstat -t you receive an error of "disabled for unknown reasons"

any suggestions

Re: HP-UX Printing

Hi,

Which security fixes did you install?
I would start to remove the patches to be 100 % sure if the are the reason for the problem.

Then I would reinstall each patch seperatly to analyze the problem

Re: HP-UX Printing

Hi Paul,

Check for any pending print request for that printer. If it got hanged cancel the print request and try to enable it.

Hope then lpstat -t can show enabled.

Cheers,
Raj.

Re: HP-UX Printing

once the printer has become disabled, it cannot be enabled. this is the first time i have sen the error "disabled for unknown reasons" if i install the printer using jetdirect, the print job pass through the queue and never prints. 60 seconds later the user who requested the print will receive a mail message quoteing the job number with an error code 2. the security changes where created by the military to pruvent root login other than at the console and disabled any sevices not needed.

thanks

Re: HP-UX Printing

I have found and corrected the problem. someone went to users in SAm and saw that the used lp was inactive. while attempting to reactivate the user a password was assigne. in order to repair the problem i removed all users that where not created by the HP-UX software and di the same on a working machine. i backedup /etc/passwd and /tcb on the working server and restored it on the broken one. then i added all of the users back in. is there a shorter way?
