HP9k Visualize display problems.

I just received some refurb 9000 workstations. When hooked up to a 21" monitor the display works correct. When hooked up to a 15" HP monitor the monitor tells me its out of range. I assume the graphics card is using a sync rate out of the range of my monitor, but how do I change this?

Re: HP9k Visualize display problems.

You can't. There may be some video cards where this is user-configurable, but this has to be enabled in software, and I've not heard of a Unix utility that would do this. You have a mismatch of monitor and video card. HP and others make multi-sync monitors that can adapt to a wide range of video cards, but its obvious that your 15" model isn't one of these. You need to get another monitor or video card.

Re: HP9k Visualize display problems.

Power off workstation, power it on. Wait until it will flash keyboard's leds (initializing kbd) and press and hold 'tab' key. This way you'll initiate video mode seletion process. Wait for some time (~5 mins). If you'll see anything on the screen, then choose the best looking mode. If you'll not see.... then use old 21" monitor!

Re: HP9k Visualize display problems.

If you are not familiar with setting the display resolution on HP9000 workstations, I suggest to start with the 21" screen and with Eugeny's procedure. The advantage is that you can see what you are doing.
Select a low resolution configuration, that certainly is supported by your 15" screen. Then hook up your 15" screen and check with the same procedure what other resolutions are supported.

Re: HP9k Visualize display problems.

you can change the resolution also using

SAM--->Peripheral devices--->monitor config

Re: HP9k Visualize display problems.

Hello.
As I know the RISC system HP not support color monitors less 17".
As I remember, the long time ago some from HP engineers says about it.
So, as far as I know, the monitor should support frequency not less than 85 Hz.

Re: HP9k Visualize display problems.

Besides the trick with the TAB key you can also check the available resolutions from the ISL prompt.
Power up the system ( with the 21" connected )
Interrupt the boot process.
Type : co mo list
Check if there's a suitable resolution for your 15".
To change to a suitable ( let's say number 5 in the list ) you need to type something like :
co mo graphics(1) 5
