HWEnable11i patch install failed
Was installing new patches from the December 2003 Support Plus CD last night, on an L-Class running 11.11.
The BUNDLE11i and GOLDQPK11i went though fine but the machine would not boot after the HWEnable11i install. It would reboot at the ??? line and the fault and attention lights would start flashing.
I booted off the vmunix.prev, copied the previous vmunix and system files to the current ones and rebooted. System came up fine and everything is running again.
I was too tired (was 4 in the morning) to bother with backing out of the HWEnable patch install. Should I do this? And how?
There is one error from that install in the /var/adm/sw/swagent.log file:
/usr/sbin/hotplugd Started
Logfile : /var/adm/hotplugd.log
* Installing fileset "PHSS_29183.AGRM,r=B.11.11.16" (50 of 66).
ERROR: Unknown owner and/or group for file "/usr/lbin/grmd". SUID
and/or SGID bit was not set.
ERROR: Failed installing fileset "PHSS_29183.AGRM,r=B.11.11.16".
Check the above output for details.
* Installing fileset "PHSS_29183.DDX-ADVANCED,r=B.11.11.16" (51
of 66).
Could this have caused the problem?
Any help will be appreciated.

Re: HWEnable11i patch install failed
Do you have any other error under swagent.log file.
that error was because of the improper permissions set on the grmd executable
It should be
-r-sr-xr-x 1 daemon bin 303104 Oct 18 2002 grmd
check for that setuid permission.

Re: HWEnable11i patch install failed
It can't be part of any bundle, needs exclusive installation.
Perhaps exclude and install the nasty patch by itself.

Re: HWEnable11i patch install failed

Re: HWEnable11i patch install failed
The logic is that once you have this installed the bundle installation would ignore the old one !

Re: HWEnable11i patch install failed
I will look into that firmware patch and change the permissions on that file.
But it doesn't really answer my question of if and how I must back put of the HWEnable bundle installation.
If I try to re-install, the system is going to think they're still there.

Re: HWEnable11i patch install failed
For some reason the daemon user was not in the passwd file.
Added the user and the suid bit to grmd.
I've downloaded PHSS_30189.
Just have the same question, should I back out of the HWEnable11i bundel install before I redo it all?
