Identifying SAN Hardware Server side?

Hi All,

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to identify what SAN hardware a server is connected to (model etc) without having access to the array please?

Cheers!

Re: Identifying SAN Hardware Server side?

If you have disk presented to the host then you can execute

ioscan -funC disk

The description field will give you some extra information about the hardware

Shalom,

Usually but not always ioscan will show you more information. This is really a question that should be asked of a person, not a machine. How the SAN was set up and how disk is presented is not available on the command line.

Re: Identifying SAN Hardware Server side?

What is SAN hardware?

Well, you will have no luck regarding switches - they are transparent.

Regarding disk arrays:
ioscan will give you some hints, example:
if you see HSV100 you will know this is an EVA3000.

If you already know the disk array family, you can use special tools to get more information, like eva- or xp-info for the EVA or XP family.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the prompt responses! - I totally forgot that the xpinfo output gives more than enough information!

Cheers!

Re: Identifying SAN Hardware Server side?

If you would ask "how to get XP details?" the solution would be much easier next time.
;-)

Anyway, have fun!

Hope this helps!

Re: Identifying SAN Hardware Server side?

Yea, I'm sorry had a little bit of a brain freeze this morning - the XP prefix should have been the only clue....

Thanks all the same!
