Is there any need to take Database shutdown while taking ignite backup.
can we take ignite backup while system is running as usual, means wen all applns and database are running ...

Yes, it is possible if the database is installed on a different volumegroup (different from vg00). Of course, you should perform the Ignite backup when user acrivity is low.

Solutionif the make_tape_recovery parameter inc_entire consist of vg00 only and your database (or datafiles) is not in vg00, it will be alright to run ignite while the database is up.
then again, even if the db (while running) is in vg00, it will be useless recovering the datafiles as it will have been corrupted.
also, good to run it when there r minimal activity and do not just rely on Ignite as your only backup (if this is a critical server).

If you are not including the volume groups which are having datafiles of the database in the backup, you need not to do so. If you want all VG's ( not recommended)to be included in the backup then you need to shut it down. The same will be the case if your datafiles are located within various file systems of vg00 itself.

Generally database volume group will be different than vg00, so you may take ignite backup while database is running
