Re: Ignite backup
Since the oracle is a database and will be growing time after time, it's very wise if you backup the Oracle seperately.
And I don't think Ignite/UX have capability to backup the open file OR can be done online.
You can goto this url below and check the FAQ of Ignite/UX software :
http://www.software.hp.com/products/IUX/index.html
Hope this can help you.
Best Regards,
AW

Re: Ignite backup
You should NOT use ignite for other than OS filesystems. Fbackup - omniback - legato are disigned for data backup and restore.
Hope this helps,
Robert-Jan.

Re: Ignite backup
you can backup Oracle with ignite but not online.
you have to stop oracle and backup all volume groups you have using:
# make_recovery -Av -x inc_entire=vg00 -x inc_entire=vg01 -x inc_entire=vg02

Re: Ignite backup
you can create a parameter file to specify the files:
inc_entire /dev/vg00
include /opt/oracle
...
exclude /SAVE
.
First: ONLINE-Backup with RMAN or SQL-scripts (htp://www.orafaq.com) / copy datafiles offline before run tape_recovery.

Re: Ignite backup
It completely takes the present system configuration of the system so that it can be helpful to bring up the system to its current state incase of a disaster.
you cannot take teh online backup of the Oracle database.
It is best to use other backup commands/software to take backup of the applications.
