Ignite error

 

Ignite error

hi,

i getting this error when i trying to take ignite backup...
ERROR: Failed to open tape device /dev/rmt/1mn:No such device or address
(errno = 6).
ERROR: Check tape device failed.

Hi,
It could be tape drive/tape problem.
Are you able to use the tape drive normally with any other utility such as tar/fbackup?

mt -f /dev/rmt/1m status

should give the status of the tape drive.

Hi Saleem,

This is because either the device file you are using is not correct or if that is correct then there is no media in the drive mentioned. If any of these is not true your drive/media is suspected to be faulty. This can be confirmed by using some normal tar command to write something to this media and see what happens.

Device file for tape drive can be confirmed by -
#ioscan -fnC tape
