ignite off network

I want to use ignite to setup rx2660 server from rx4640 server, since I dont' have dds tape, so, I wanted to boot from an ignite server where image of rx4640 is saved by running make_net_recovery. My question is:

1. Do I have to use that bootable DVD media first on the rx2660 before I can use that saved image on ignite server, which is called "2 step" booting process? or I can boot off ignite server directly?

2. Is there any problem to use rx4640 on r2660?

Re: ignite off network

look into direct lanboot using dbprofile function of firmware.

You may have to update the FW on the rx2660 first to get the functionality.

dbprofile allows you to boot from an ignite server off subnet.

Re: ignite off network

If both servers are in the same subdirectory, then you can boot it from rx2660. One thing I can remember is that you need to have ignite running and need some modification in /etc/bootptab.
