ignite problems
Hello Can some one please see the error message is familier. I 'm trying to take the ignite backup - but it fails with the error below. Pls help.
Adding /opt/ignite/Version file to LIF.
* Writing boot LIF to tape
49+0 records in
48+1 records out
I/O error
ERROR: /usr/bin/dd if=/var/tmp/uxinstlf.recovery of=/dev/rmt/0mn bs=2k failed
to write LIF onto tape.
ERROR: Failed to generate LIF on tape .
======= 08/01/07 14:14:14 CDT make_tape_recovery completed unsuccessfully

It means just what it says. "I/O error" --- this is a very general error that means that a write() failed but beyond that the system can't identify the problem. It could be a faulty tape drive, bad tape, dirty drive, .... it could even be a missing, incorrect, or a bad terminator. Surprisingly, an unterminated SCSI bus will often almost work well --- the worst kind of problem to have.
If cabling and termination is ok, I would clean the drive and try a new tape.

Could be a bad tape. Have you tried a different tape?
Could be a bad tape drive. Can you successfully write to a tape in that drive with other utilities?
