increase dde process priority?

I'm trying to run the dde debugger on the development box. It is dog slow. When I issued the top command, it has never appeared as one of the top 10 processes at all. I'm curious what I can do to bump up the priority on the box for this program or I'm dead in the water. Each button click takes about five seconds to respond.

Re: increase dde process priority?

Hi Tony,

You can 'nice' the process to run it at a higher priority. However to increase (decrease the nice value) the priority, you have to be root. Look at the man page of "nice|renice" for more information.

Whatelse is running on the box?

Re: increase dde process priority?

you can lower trhe nice which increases the priority.

This can cause problems, but here is an example.

renice -n [offset_from_20] [PID]

20 is the default nice for foreground processes 24 for background.

On a busy systems this might help the proces get done faster. On and idle system it won't help.

Toni

You can use glance to change the priority (renice).
