Re: insf -e is active from four days
Where was "insf -e" run from? Typically you run insf -e interactively and it displays a lot of output on your screen as it goes through all the device files. It also pauses when it finds new devices that it must create device files for.
This is where your problem may be. I notice that the parent process of insf is PID 1 (init) which means that the login session that insf was run from was disconnected probably with the intend to kill insf. If there was a long pause on insf it may have been an indication of a hardware issue with one of the devices.
Check your syslog for hardware errors.

Re: insf -e is active from four days
- What patch level of insf (what /sbin/insf)
?
1> You could also run tusc (http://hpux.cs.utah.edu/hppd/hpux/Sysadmin/tusc-7.8/)
on the insf pid or its children to see if they are doing anything useful.
2> insf can be safely killed using `kill -9
3> Normally insf takes time if there are too may disks in the system or if some some storage has issues with access. This information (number of disks etc) would be
useful here.
