Installing Network Printer NRG DSm660

Hi,

i wants to install network printer NRG DSm660 on my hpux system running with 11.23.
while installing the printer through SAM it says the HP Jetdirct Printer Software not installed on your system, therefor it is not possible.

when i am trying to download the Jetdirect Printer Software there is no model for the NRG DSm660. all the models are hp only.

So what my doupt is that NRG DSm660 printer installation is possible on my hpux system...

pls tell me how to install the printer...
thank you in advance

Re: Installing Network Printer NRG DSm660

Hi buddy,

Please follow the below procedure.

1]First put the entry of IP and hostname of printer in /etc/hosts file.

2]check telnet& ping is working foer that printer.

3] IF all above things are through, go to SAM

4]SAM - >printer & plotters - > LP spooler ->
printer & plotters
-> Add Network-Based Printer/Plotter -> It will ask Do you want to proceed with the task?
give option - yes

then select option 1]Spooler Administration (super-user only)

again select 1) Add printer to local spooler

Enter the network printer name or IP address (q - quit):"hostname/IP "

After this give the option 2.

"here is your problem occuring"

you need to give option 58 - > give "0" -> q .

I think your prob will be resolve.

5]Test it with

# lp -d /test >printername>;lpstat

Cheers!!!!

Re: Installing Network Printer NRG DSm660

The HP documentation is very misleading when it comes to network printing. Your NRG printer knows nothing about the proprietary HP JetDirect protocol, so it is defined as a "remote" printer, not a "network" printer. This means that hppi will never work. You must install the printer using SAM and select "remote printer", not "network printer". But you will need one piece of information that only NRG can provide and that is the internal name of the printer. The remote printing protocol needs 4 pieces of information:

- local HP-UX print queue name
- printer's IP address
- printer's internal name
- select BSD printer

Although I have a list of a couple of dozen non-HP printers listed in the attached file, NRG is not listed so you'll have to check the documentation or contact the manufacturer for the lpr name.

For the M5035 printer, use this URL:

http://www.hp.com/pond/modelscripts/net_ljM5035mfp.sh.Z

To browse all the HPPI model scripts (not drivers), use this URL:

http://www.hp.com/pond/modelscripts/index2.html
