Or do you mean that you like to rename an lan interface lan3 to lan0? I remember an application that would only work on lan0.

Instance nubers can be changed useing the ioinit command.

A good reason to change instance numbers is to copy the configuration of one server onto an other. It is easier if the cards have the same instance numbers on both machines. Sometimes the automatic assigning of those will give different numbers, for whatever reason, so you want to change them.

This can be done with ioinit (permanently) or ioscan (untill a reboot).
Every problem has at least one solution. Only some solutions are harder to find.
