IPC Read Error
Hello All!
HP OmniBack II question: I've just installed a new client on my HP OmniBack II NT Machine. When the Itried to run a Backup it failed with the following:
[Critical] From:BDA-NET@xxxxxxxxxx.xxxx.edu "" Time: 02/02/01 08:31:18
Can not handshake with Media Agent (IPC Read Error
System error: [10054] Connection reset by peer
) => aborting.
[Critical] From: VBDA@xxxxxxxxxx.xxxx.edu "" Time: 02/02/01 08:31:18
Unexpected close reading NET message => aborting.
The "Unexpected close reading NET message..." is encountered several times a month on another backup.
I have an HP-UX 11.0, OmniBack II 3.5, running "MOM" - Manager or Managers.
All Hosts files have been modified accordingly, not only on the NT Cell Server, but on My Unix Cell server as well.
Any and all help is very much appreciated.
Alex.

Re: IPC Read Error
Hello,
What I have experienced with that kind of cell is:
Starting a Backup means starting two sets of agents. The disk agents that read datas to save and put them in large buffers, and the media agent that feed the saving drive.
They communicate via an ip communication channel. The message you got explain that channel is broken, and also that you are trying to backup datas from your current NT system to another machine of the cell that is connected to a drive, or a tape library.
Do you have any firewall or bridges between your 2 machines ? Security officers oftenly forget about the ports that OII uses.
Are you sure that your network communication is ok, coz that looks also like a timeout.
Wich value do you use for this timeout ?
