Hi,
I was hoping someone could provide some information regarding java running on unix ....
I have installed tomcat which in turn runs java, I have noticed that the cpu stats on my server almost max out every sor tof 10 minutes. I am noticing the PPID changing, why is a new process being spawned?
I have read some information and understand that java can cause some issues if not configured correctly.
any info would be great.
Thanks
Chris.

Solution
1)CPU spikes every 10 mins:
Probably Java is performing full garbage collection every 10 mins. Pls check the java options set. You will have to tune this for your application hosted under Tomcat.
(look for JAVA_OPTS environment variable)
2) New PPID: no idea why would you see new PPID. What about the PID? Does it change also?
