JetAdmin printer config problem
I??ve configured network printers in a system with JetAdmin D.06.21.
It worked well with HP printers but it doesn??t work with Kyocera-1800 printers; it fails when we introduce IP printer address, JetAdmin returns an error message like this: "This is not a valid name"
I??ve tried to ping from prompt and the printer answers are OK.
It seems that kyocera printer is not compatible with JetAdmin Software.
Does anyone can help?
I need to configure printers anyway.
Thanks.

Re: JetAdmin printer config problem
afaik the jetadmin software is for HP printers only. If you want to configure a "foreign" printer you have two choices.
-the printer has its own config utility (like some Xerox printers do).
-you should always be able to configure this printer as a remote printer (eg. with SAM). Check the docs for the remote printer name to use (usually raw or lp). This will allow you to print, but you may not be able to use all printeroptions with the lp-command.
Hope this helps
Regards Stefan

Re: JetAdmin printer config problem
You can add this printer as remote from SAM.

Re: JetAdmin printer config problem
- I??d been searching for any kyocera hp-ux utility but I didn??t find it yet.
- I hadn??t tried to configure the kyocera printer as a remote printer but I??ve done it with a HP one and the printing doesn??t looks fine, it doesn??t make the carriage return.
Any suggestion?

Re: JetAdmin printer config problem
Just a few things.
Did you enter the printer and the alias in the hosts file prior to install ?
Did you configure the Kyocera printer as HP laserjet ?
Which version of jetadmin do you use ?

Re: JetAdmin printer config problem
Answers to your questions:
- Did you enter the printer and the alias in the hosts file prior to install ?
I didn??t enter the printer name on /etc/hosts.
- Did you configure the Kyocera printer as HP laserjet ?
Kyocera-1800 doesn??t support HP LaserJet emulation, for instance it supports PCL.
Which version of jetadmin do you use ?
D.06.21
-----------------------------
I??ve found a site where it provides support in avoiding stair-stepping (http://www.hp.com/cgi-bin/cposupport/get_doc.pl?SNI=jd2550b&LC=networking&Tfile=bpj02744).
At the end, it explains how to avoid the problem when you are configuring a remote printer. I??ve tried it with the HP printer and now works well, I??d try it with the kyoceras tomorrow.
Anyway, if anyone want to contribute with other idea is welcome.
Thanks a lot.

Re: JetAdmin printer config problem
Lexmarks Markvision works well on hp-ux for non hp and hp printers.
It is like Jetadmin and can be downloaded
http://www.lexmark.com/AP/TW/solutions/markvision_printers.html
Is a list of supported printers.
