jetdirect printer installer problems

Hello,

I was having troubles adding newer printers via addqueue w/ the old jetdirect software w/o specifying a printer id w/ the -i option. Jetdirect support told we to download Jetdirect printer installer and my problem would go away. Well, it didn't--here's what happens:

/opt/hpnpl/bin/addqueue -h xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -q test
printer not supported

but when I add the -i...
/opt/hpnpl/bin/addqueue -i 261 -h xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -q test
test added to spooler.

this is all w/ the new software. what gives? Did the jetdirect guy lie to me, or am I still not doing something right?

Please help,
Dan

Re: jetdirect printer installer problems

Hi Dan

i think that you must use the option of -i because of the type of the printer.

i have a regular printer and i try to add a que with the command addqueue and it work with -i and without the -i .

i know that there is sometimes problem with createing a new printer with jetadmin and i know also that now there is a new product replacing the jetadmin

what yupe of printer do you have ?

Re: jetdirect printer installer problems

It's a hp 8150. And I'm using Jetdirect Printer Installer which is the replacement for the old Jetadmin for Unix Utility

Re: jetdirect printer installer problems

Hi,

jetadmin gets the printer id from the printer via an snmp query (hpnpadmin -i ) and compares it to the printer id's in the supported printer list (which I think is) /opt/hpnp/admin/Printerlist.

If you have a printer which marginally differs from a supported printer, e.g LJ 8100 vs. LJ 8150, and you want to use addqueue without the -i option, you need to:

1) add a line for the printer id and printer description to the Printerlist file

2) copy the cfg file for the 8100 model to .cfg , where is the printer id for the 8150 model. You can find the .cfg files somewhere in the /opt/hpnp tree.

Hope this helps.

Vincent
