Kernel Duplication.

Team:

I am building a new L class server identical to a production server. i have done all the work except building the kernel. I just have to duplicate the kernel settings on the production server (same config). I know i can go to sam and make all the changes one by one, but is there any quick way of doing it? I mean just to copy some files and reboot? Please help.

Thanks
Joe.

Re: Kernel Duplication.

You could copy /stand/system from the first system to the new one, but I prefer to go through line by line and check each one.

Re: Kernel Duplication.

Why not use Ignite's make_recovery?

Re: Kernel Duplication.

Easiest way is create a make_tape_recovery from the production server and use it on new Box.

It can be downloaded from

USA..

Re: Kernel Duplication.

Make_tape_recovery would be the safest option for you. If you don't want to go for that then I would suggest you to do the manual changes. Just copying files will not work on new OS kernel buils since it uses DLKMs (kernel modules).

Thanks a lot. I will go for the manual change.

Re: Kernel Duplication.

I can't tell you how many system clones I have made with ignite, but it is greater than 300!!!!!

Wonderful product, saved so many hours to turn out clones.
