I install Oracle 10.2 on HP-UX 11.11.
I have same problem and I know ,that I must increase shmmax to 17179869184 bytes. But then I try to increase I see this :
The value specified for tunable parameter "shmmax", "17179869184",evaluates to "17179869184" which is more than the maximum allowed value of "1073741824".
But than i read doks http://docs.hp.com/en/B3921-90010/shmmax.5.html maximum value is more
Can anybody help?

Re: kernel parameter
That is for 11.22, not 11.11.
Do you have more than 17 Gb of memory?

Re: kernel parameter
What kind of hardware are you using there? Do you have a 64 bit architecture (maybe a PA-RISC based)? In this case you should check if you have applied the patch PHKL_24032 (or some patch/bundle that supersede this one.)
How much physical memory do you have installed on this node?
