Kernel parameters for Oracle 8.1.7
Last week our database shut down. There were too many querys going on at one time. Our maxusers is set to 128 and nfile is set to 3500. We are going to be having a lot of queries going forward as I have been told they are doing data warehouse cleaning. Can any one tell me what I should set these parameters to and if there are any others that I should be concerned about so that my database does not shut down again during the day.
The server in question is a K580 running the O/S of 11.0.

Re: Kernel parameters for Oracle 8.1.7
Shalom,
Please provide full kmtune output.
Fast advice.
maxuprc to 300
shmmax to 25% of system memory minimal.
You should fire up glance/gpm and look at the high water mark on critical kernel parameters and take action accordingly.
dbc_max_pct set to max of 10 and no more than 5% higher than dbc_min_pct
That is the quick draw.

Re: Kernel parameters for Oracle 8.1.7
Steven,
I don't seem to have a copy of glance on this system. I have enclosed the output of kmtune in an attachment.
