Lan interface goes down

Hi,

Lan0 of my hp workstaion b2600 goes down every now and then... and I have to do "ifconfig lan0 down" and then "ifconfig lan0 up" to bring it up. Can any body help me to find the root cause of this problem.

Hi Qamar,
Is there any script or process running which is using Lan Interface, and probably may misbehaving and disturbing the NIC configuration. See if you can trace out something from /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log file.

there must be some reason - error message or something in log files.
Check dmesg, syslog, stm tool.

also look in syslog.log for cause

HI Qamar,

In addition to checking the syslog.log you can also format the nettl log and check for any errors.

# netfmt -Nlf /var/adm/nettl.LOG000 > /tmp/nettl.trace

Then view the /tmp/nettl.trace and check if there is any problem.

Most common causes for this problem are,

1) LAN cable
2) Switch/Hub Port
3) LAN HBA
4) Improper speed and Duplex settings

Let us know what you found.
