Login problem

When the user login to the system HPUX 10.2 , it will stop at the login prompt for long time -->
---------------------------------------
login: user
Password:
Please wait...checking for disk quotas
---------------------------------------

, but it is normal to login as 'root' , can suggest how to fix ? Thx.

Re: Login problem

are your users home directories NFS mounted?
If so, there is a known issue f htey have a history file on the NFS mounted directory.
Move it off onto a local file system.

Re: Login problem

Hi,

The othe way to do it is to set the HISTFILE variable in the profiles or in /etc/profile to something local, ie :

export HISTFILE=/tmp/.sh_history

Re: Login problem

you are examine and fix the things.
But now to make users log in

# chmod 000 /usr/sbin/edquota
# chmod 000 /usr/bin/quota

This should skip the quota checking process

Thanks

Re: Login problem

hi T G Manikandan,

It is Ok when skipping to check quota , but I think it is not the best solution, do you have other suggestions? thx.

Re: Login problem

you can also use the noquota option when mounting nfs file systems.

check the man pages of mount_nfs.

mount -F nfs -o noquota :/home /home

Thanks
