Long usernames?

Hello,

We are looking into syncing our windows active directory usernames/passwords with your hp-ux host, and a problem we have is that the usernames must match exactly.

We also want to use firstname.lastname, but are currently limited to 8 characters for the hp-ux username.

What can we do so our hp-ux system supports longer usernmaes, and the firstname.lastname format?

Thank!

Re: Long usernames?

Shalom,

At http://software.hp.com there is add in software for hp-ux 11 v2 that permits longer hostnames and users names.

The documents for ADS integration provide a means of making the two systems work together.

Enjoy the reading, the answers lie within.

I could have posted less documenation had you revealed the server os to me.

Re: Long usernames?

I don't know if the LDAP-UX Itegration software provides a mechanism to map the UNIX usernames to the Active Directory user names. I haven't read the documentation for it so far. That would be the only way that might work.

Otherwise the answer is simple... nothing.

Re: Long usernames?

Moreover, even if you apply all the patches there is a very good chance that you are going to break applications -- especially legacy applications. It's difficult to change conventions that have been in place for decades.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Long usernames?

Microsoft documents that their "Services for Unix" has the capability to sync from windows to unix, or from unix to windows, and tells what deamons are required to sync usernames, and passwords between the two platforms.

Although if you are running Windows 2003 x64 your going to need to upgrade to Windows 2003 R2 x64 because they dont provide a free Services for Unix on the x64 platform because its been integrated into 2003 R2.
