Re: lost password
If this is a root password, then you can switch off/on the system . Boot in a single user mode.
Press any key before 10 second message.
bo pri
Interact with IPL> yes
ISL> hpux -is
Once it has booted in a single user mode.
# /sbin/passwd root
Give the new password.
# /sbin/init 3 ( or 4, check the /etc/inittab file for the final run level)
It will come to multiuser mode.

Re: lost password
are you conclude it is a PC from the word "startup" ???? I will suppose that your conclusion is right!!!!!!!!!!
I think you shouldon't express your opinions in awkward words!!!!! May be, he is beginner or something like that.
I say that because you replayed to me in my first question in ITRC att all in such a manner
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=509430
and really, I am annoyed from your words, but didn't want to make it a deal !!!
If you aren't interested about any question from any one (especially, beginners), it is so better not to replay than you replay such that.
finally, don't be angry from me, I talk to you as a friend or co-worker.

Re: lost password
I think Michael is just trying to clarify the fault before suggesting anything.
He's friendly and helpful - honest!

Re: lost password
I agree with you that Michael may be too friendly and helpful ( because I am still new to ITRC Professionals) but what I want to say is that :
It is important to respect others even if they are beginners or have a lot of errors or misunderstanding !!!!!!
this is just, my opinion.

Re: lost password
It would be helpful if you gave us a little more info..
HP-UX or Windows system?
If HP-UX, is it a server class or a workstation?
Rgds,
Jeff

Re: lost password
My last word on the subject - I don't want to hijack someone else's thread!
I don't think it is disrepectful to ask for clarification provided it is done politely. I believe the request was polite, and it may help to ensure Ken provides full information in future posts.
I'm still relatively new myself and have no objection to being asked for clarification if I haven't provided enough info.
Just my opinion!

Re: lost password
if I offended you by the selection of my words, please accept my appologies.
Although I speak English fairly well, it is not my native language.
and sometimes I am bit short or words and unfortunately you can't hear the inflection of the voice.
this is also meant to Ken
greetings,
Michael
