LPD daemon refusing job
Hi,
I'm trying to send output to an HPUX 11.0 system via lpr/lpd. The rlpdaemon fires up and leaves the message 'Unacceptable protocol' in lpd.log. The file is never printed.
The client is Win 98 using an LPR driver. This same driver prints OK to Solaris and Linux.
I tried turning on the -l option. It shows the connection from the PC and then gives the same eror message.
Any ideas? Is there a way to get it to tell me what is unacceptable?
Thanks
Russ

Re: LPD daemon refusing job
I am delaing with a similar issue. It appears that HP-UX rlpdaemon requires that the data file be sent before the control file in the LPD protocol. Most other OS's will receive the files in either order. If there is an option for sending the data file first, try that.

Re: LPD daemon refusing job
Three possibilities.
1. Does the hostname you are trying to print from start with a letter? It has to.
2. Are you using the Postscript Driver for the printer? The PCL will create this error.
3. Make sure LPR Byte Counting is enabled.
