My fbackup failed because the config parameter maxvoluses default value of 100 was exceeded. What is the maximum recommended tape usage for DLT-IV and 4mm DDS-2 tapes? Thanks.

Re: Maximum tape usage
Hi Ed,
The value depends on the "maxvoluses" parameter in the fbackup config file which is by default set to "100".
Take a look at this link from itrc,
http://www1.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en_US&docId=200000076534388
The itrc doc id is KBRC00003076.
I would think that leaving the value at 100 would be better.
Hope this helps.

Solution
Hi Ed,
For DLT
What is the estimated lifespan and shelf-life of my DLT and SDLT tapes?
The life expectancy of DLT and SDLT cartridges is 5000 load and unload cycles or 1,000,000 passes over the head. Cartridge shelf life is more than 30 years with less than 10% loss in demagnetization at 20 degrees C and 40% noncondensing humidity.

Best regards,
Robert-Jan
