missing device files

we have recently had hpux 11.00 installed on a k370. I can no longer see the device files for the DLT4500 . when I run ioscan -fn i get the following:
ext_bus 5 10/16/8 scsi1 CLAIMED INTERFACE HP 28655A - SE SCSI ID=7

unknown -1 10/16/8.5 UNCLAIMED UNKNOWN Quantum DLT4500

unknown -1 10/16/8.5.0 UNCLAIMED UNKNOWN Quantum DLT4500

unknown -1 10/16/8.5.1 UNCLAIMED UNKNOWN Quantum TZ Media Changer

I've tried an insf and that didnt work. Has anyone got any suggestions? . thanks Mark

Re: missing device files

Go through SAM->Kernel Configurations->Drivers amd mark the DLT Driver In for installation. This will require system reboot.

Re: missing device files

Hi,

You'll need spt, stape and schgr drivers to
be installed.

Re: missing device files

Hi,

Sorry if this is a double post,I keep on
getting an error page when posting a reply.

You'll need to install the following
drivers in your kernel:
spt
stape
schgr

Re: missing device files

Hi,

the driver stape is missing in the kernel.
Add the driver with SAM and reboot.

Re: missing device files

Check for the tape2 driver! The stape driver is just for tape devices connected to a HCS bus.

Re: missing device files

One way to find out which driver is needed by the autoloader is to see what driver the tape driver part of the device is using. If the tape device is using "stape" the autoloader will bind to sctl when it is in the kernel. If the tape device uses tape2, then the spt driver will need to be used.

You can do a ioscan -fnC tape

Re: missing device files

Here's some more info.
Since the DLT has a robotic arm, you may find even after you have loaded the drivers (especially the spt) and everything appears Claimed in ioscan - that you still are unable to get the DLT to work. If this happens it is because the driver SPT, which your robotic arm needs, has to be manually attached in the kernel.
You may want to review this thread (the last entry..) for more information on this issue:

Re: missing device files

many thanks for all the help. If I'd done a comparison of one of the other nodes in the cluster before i'd raised this I would have twigged what it was. The tape2 driver bit worked . The spt bit I'm ok on but thanks again
