Missing icon in SAM

Hi All,

We have several servers (HPUX-10.20), all the same. They are configured as
NIS servers and all of them except one, have an icon "NIS Users" in the SAM
Area "Accounts for Users and Groups".

Do you know why this icon is missing on one of the servers ?
Do you know how to add or recover it in SAM ?

Thanks in advance,

Re: Missing icon in SAM

Hi

i saw this problem with SAM when i old patch of SAM was install .

install the new patch for SAM for 10.20 :
PHCO_22268 - s700_800 10.20 Cumulative SAM/ObAM Patch .

i will guess that you patch level on your system that had a problem is low with the SAM patch .

Re: Missing icon in SAM

I'm not sure but I don't think it has something to do with patches.

We have 5 servers :
2 of them have the same patches as the one with the fault
The 2 last ones have the same patches except PHSS_14405.PHSS_14405

Re: Missing icon in SAM

To have the "Network Users" icon, you need to have a separtate network passwd file, i.e. /etc/passwd.nis. Otherwise, the system would not know which is the network users and which are local users. This file name then needs to be updated in /var/yp/Makefile. Once this is done update your NIS maps using cd /var/yp;make. Make sure you create the /etc/passwd.nis file first.

Good luck.

Re: Missing icon in SAM

Thanks for your help but on the servers that are
working fine there is no file /etc/nsswitch.conf and no /etc/passwd.nis.
There is only one password file : /etc/passwd.
