MQSeries Perl module build problem

I'm trying to build the MQSeries Perl module on a HP-UX 11.0 64-bit system using MQSeries 5.3, Perl 5.8.0, and the HP-UX ANSI C compiler
The compilation works OK, but the link fails with the dreaded "Mismatched ABI (not an ELF file) for -lmqic" error.

I've tried linking to the libmqic_r library instead, but get the same result.
If anyone anyone has successfully accomplished this, I'd appreciate the build recipe.
