Multipath

Hi all.
I have A5158A HBA card and an Emulex 8000 HBA card. Is there any way of doing multipath with those two components?
Thanks in advance

Re: Multipath

Liadi,

I don't know the Emulex 8000 HBA and therefore assume it is not supported under HP-UX, it may be supported on Itanium machines but likely only under Windows.

Regarding multipathing it depends on whether you just want failover ability (active/passive path) which is a standard feature of LVM, or dynamic multipathing (active/active) which would require additional SW e.g EMC Power Path (if you connect to an EMC box) or AutoPath etc etc.

Re: Multipath

Liadi,

What are you connecting to these HBA's? And why can'nt you have the same? The most likely answer you will get from your SAN/Array vendor, HP, Veritas (if using VxVM) is it is not officially supported but it could work... As long as you've the Emulex drivers properly configured and know the "caveats" AND can see both LUNS off of the HP HBA and the Emulex HBA - then you certainly can.. I reckon if Multipathing -- it will work with XP (DMP mode).. on EVA's it will not work with SecurePath.. Other arrays... test.. But don't use these enviroment in a production one..

Re: Multipath

Thanks bernahrd for the (usual) quick answer.
The Emulex 8000 is already installed on my machine and interact just fine with the storage. Now I have 2 questions:
1) How do I use the multipath with the LVM? I mean - I got Duplicate physical devices for each LUN. How do I make the LVM see them as one and enable the take over?
2) My storage is IBM FAStT 200. Do you know any other sw that I can use with it?

Re: Multipath

If you can already see your LUN's on both HBA's .. then you can employ PVLINKS.. Use SAM and check the results.. If not, you can use command line.. configure the LUN 1st on the primary path and add in the secondary path...
