NDS integration?

Does anyone out there work in a shop where Netware and hp-ux have been integrated to any degree? I'm mostly interested in having hp-ux/Oracle authenticate users against NDS and in cross-platform file mapping. We do some of the latter, but not very well, and none of the former.

Tips, links, the like, will all be appreciated.

Re: NDS integration?

There's an NDS pam module out there and an NDS client, but I think both are for Linux. You may be able to port them to UX though. (I'm not sure if the pam module is standalone or requires the client.) You could also setup the LDAP server portion of NDS (on 5.x and above) and use the LDAP PAM module for authentication. This option would probably require less work than the first.

As for file sharing, Novell 5.x and above have NFS sharing built in. You just need to enable it (and NFS namespace).

Re: NDS integration?

Brian,

Thanks. Yes, Linux has better Netware integration, but most of it was abandoned a couple of years ago.

At Netware 5, NFS for Netware is a separately chargeable product--at least they're charging _me_ for it. We understand that at 6.x it becomes part of the core.

Re: NDS integration?

I just saw an e-mail from Novell asking for Beta sites for a new HP-UX implementation of eDirectory. I haven't checked it out yet, so I don't have any more information that that.

One other thing, I remember reading an article in Novell's AppNotes that discussed how to integrate UNIX (Solaris, I believe) using LDAP Pam modules, like Brian mentioned.

Maybe that would help...?

I've been interested in doing something like this myself, but I haven't had the time to seriously look at it. If you find out anything interesting, I'd *love* to hear about it!

Seth
