nettl Command Line Interface format for filter

We have a product in a customer format with a data corruption problem. We are trying to get a network trace to identify whether the data is corrupted before it is sent to the HPUX platform or if it is corrupted within our application on HPUX (which is within a java based webserver).

Because nettl is run by root, our customer is involved with collecting the trace (we don't have root access).

I can use nettladm to configure the trace for the specific IP address and port number and trace the NS_LS_TCP interface. Because of the modular nature of nettl - shared libraries apparently provide interfaces to streams aspects - there is apparently no generic command line interface to provide the filter for the trace.

It would be vastly preferable to give the customer a script and tell them "run this while you recreate the problem". However, what I am finding myself doing is writing a document that instructs them how to cursor down to one field, hit tab three times to get to another field, etc.

Once I've selected the options within nettladm, is there a way to capture the filter options? Are the options for NS_LS_TCP documented anywhere?

Can someone suggest another - simpler - way to provide a canned procedure to our customer?

Regards,

Larry Weiner
