network interface card

Hi
i have added a Gigabit network card on a L3000 HP-UX server , the card take the nomination lan2 ,
i have disconnected the network cable from lan0 so it became disabled
i gave an IP address to lan2 and the interface become up but i can not ping any address from this interface , only i can ping the own ip address
note that when i put netstat -rn the default route is connected to lan0 , could it be the problem ?
the fiber switch is a cisco 2960G and even fron the switch we can not ping the server ,
the interface on the switch is also up
could it be a configuration that we should do on the unix server ??

Re: network interface card

hi,

if you just removed the cable, you have just taken the interface down, not disabled it.

go into sam and networking>interface cards and disable it here properly.

make sure the new card is configured correctly and set to auto neg. Gigabit cards dont like to forced to a set speed.

How did you give the new card an IP? have you updated all the necessary files aswell

Re: network interface card

Yes - you need to update your default route.

Re: network interface card

make sure the autoneg is on both NIC and swicth..also the physical cabling between them in the LAN/VLAN.

Re: network interface card

How should i configure the default gateway on lan2 ??

should i do other configuration than giving the IP address?

Re: network interface card

Just edit /etc/rc.config.d/netconf to add proper IP/gateway for that interface.
After that /sbin/init.d/net start

Re: network interface card

Hi,

Disable the lan0 card properly.

Then remove the existing default gateway.

# route delete default

Then add new gateway.

# route add default 1

Hope this helps.

Thanks
Best wishes,

Ganesh.
