Network/Speed

I want to see if I am running at 100/Full or not. I dont want to use 'lanadmin' utility or the 'lanadmin -flag' commands or 'sam'. Is there another way to find out running 11.11

Re: Network/Speed

Hi Robert,

The tool to check the netwerk speed in lanadmin. If you are not able to use that command i suggest checking the speed and duplex settings on the switch. The lanadmin command is lanadmin -x and ppa can be found with the lanscan command.

I echo Gideon above.

Why don't you want to use the "lanadmin" command?

Re: Network/Speed

In solaris you can find it using ndd.
link_speed.

check ndd options in 11.11

Re: Network/Speed

I dont want to use lanadmin because I am going to let a novice unix user check the speed because I can not log in to the remote box right now. I am afraid he will reset the card (flickering porch light).

Re: Network/Speed

Hi

Given your restriction MeasureWare C.03.70 reports the LAN speed per interface. It does not (unless I'm mistaken) say wheter it is full duplex or half duplex.

As far as using lanadmin, I BELIEVE only root can set lan speeds, anyone else can just query them..

Re: Network/Speed

Tim,

Im not so sure about that. when i ll /usr/sbin/lanadmin, it shows 555.

# ll /usr/sbin/lanadmin
-r-xr-xr-x 2 root bin 49152 Jan 29 2002 /usr/sbin/lanadmin

My experience is that if a command is exe by all, ALL the functionality is available.

I could be mistaken on that but I am fairly sure of it.

Re: Network/Speed

Hi,

If any user except root or superuser execute lanadmin. He cannot reset the lan communication. It will show a message like this.
------------------------------------------
Enter command: reset
Not authorized to reset LAN Interface.
