New Libraries?
Hi:
An xmotif application is requesting to use a set of libraries that are freeware and available at the following URL:
http://www.w3.org/Library/
I need to know if there is any impact to loading them on the Current servers. Or if something like this was loaded, where should it go? If they actually integrated these libraries into their fileset and loaded them onto the system during application installation, would anyone be the wiser? I guess the main issue is ...can they actually screw something up by loading these libraries?
Pl. help. we run 11.0 on nclass.
David

Re: New Libraries?
Normally, applications will load into /usr/local. Since libraries will be put in this case into /usr/local/lib then it should not impact the system at all.
However....
HP-UX may or may not work with the libraries, and could in fact end up crashing the server.
Normally software vendors try to ensure that these problems do not exist. Make sure that the applications/libraries are approved for the version of HP-UX your running on.
If it's not approved, you could shut down the system. Test un-approved systems on non-production machines before implementing on production machines.
Sincerely,
Shannon
