I am tying to install some patches thru swinstall -s /path/patch_name.depot.
after some time I get ther following error.
"A Remote Procedure Call to a daemon has failed. Could not start a
management session for "Loaner2:/". Make sure the host is accessible
from the network, and that its daemon, swagentd, is running."
I checked swagentd deamon , follwing is the result.
Loaner2:/> ps -ef |grep swagentd
root 3705 3666 0 18:47:05 pts/tc 0:00 grep swagentd
root 2217 1 0 17:59:02 ? 0:00 /usr/sbin/swagentd -r
Loaner2:/>
I killed swagentd deamon and restarted but no positive result.
Please help.
thanks
Mohan

Re: new problem during swinstall,
Can you able to install as,
swinstall -s Loaner2:/pathto/depot
I hope swagentd is working fine. Check it now.
swinstall may lookup hostname with -s option.

Re: new problem during swinstall,
nslookup Loaner2
Else,
Add an entry in /etc/hosts as,
IP-ADDRESS FQDN Loaner2
else start the swinstall as,
swinstall -s IP-Address:/path to file/
Problem because of hostname resolvation or -s parameter setting.

Re: new problem during swinstall,
it seems like resoving problem, so try nslookup loaner2
you will see resolving order something like
DNS
hosts
NIS
if loaner2 will not be resolved in DNS you should have entry about in /etc/hosts (or NIS server)
check /etc/hosts for following entry:
127.0.0.1 localhost loopback
xxx.xxx.xx.x loaner2
Check also the /etc/nssswitch.conf if hosts are allowed after DNS (easiest way is to do it in SAM)

Re: new problem during swinstall,
I assume you do an install on the local machine? Does swlist work? Does swremove show a window with software to be removed?
Check your name resolving (nsswitch.conf, /etc/hosts, DNS, ...)
If this won't help, there are more threads on this subject. You may use the search option at the top of the screen.
Maybe a bit far fetched, but also check this one: http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=588794
Do you have a new DNS version installed (with 'round robin' functionality enabled?)

Re: new problem during swinstall,
What is your swacl -l Loaner2 ?
Error of ,
Access denied to root@Loaner2 to start agent on unregistered
depot "/tmp/mohan/PHNE_29387.depot". No (i)nsert permission
on host. 09/01/04 09:28:26 SST
--> saying as,
Not having insert permission on the file system.
Try as like,
swacl -l depot -f /tmp/mohan/PHNE_29387.depot -M host:Loaner2:i
