NIS

Hi,

when I do a " ypwhich" , if the answer is the same to its nodename, does it
mean that this is the NIS master server? How do I know whether it is master or
slave?

Does anybody know where I can get some ducumentation on NIS?

Thanks a lot!!

Re: NIS

ypwhich -m will give you the NIS master.
Check out the man pages for ypwhich....

Re: NIS

Also check in /etc/rc.config.d/namesvrs
If NIS_MASTER_SERVER=1 then it is a NIS master....

Re: NIS

Hi, everything said before me is right, ypwhich -m is the correct answer, yet I
wan't to share with you a possible reason why ypwhich comes back with the
system's hostname. If for example the master server is rebooted, it could bind
to any slave server in your domain while coming up; but afterwards, the slave
server forces the master to bind to itself.
