Not able to eject CDROM

Hi All,

I am not able to eject the cdrom of my new RX 8640 server. There is one cd inside cdrom, when I am mounting it, I am able to view the content but when I unmounted for inserting the another cd, the tray is not coming out.

Any idea on this???

Re: Not able to eject CDROM

Sorry to sound strange, but did you depress the the button on front of the cdrom?
"The difference between me and you? I will read the man page." and "Respect the hat." and "You could just do a search on ITRC, you don't need to start a thread on a topic that's been answered 100 times already." Oh, and "What. no points???"

Re: Not able to eject CDROM

You could also use a paper clip to open the drive.

Re: Not able to eject CDROM

OK..maybe off the wall but since it's an RX86xx box....

is there by any chance any virtual machines with this nice box?
If so, did you remember to release the cdrom from the virtual machine, thus giving it back to the Host server...??

Just a thought, like I said, might be off the wall...

Re: Not able to eject CDROM

Simply unmounting won't eject the cd - you have to push the button on the front of the drive tray. Did you?

Re: Not able to eject CDROM

conversely,

drives (at least some) don't like to open with the cd / dvd mounted....did it get unmounted first?

Re: Not able to eject CDROM

Good question. Well I am trying since few hours by pressing the button and I did this lot many time. Regarding virtual machine, no its single standalone box

Re: Not able to eject CDROM

Strange that it doesn't have the whole. I thought this machine had the slim line laptop style cd drive.

Re: Not able to eject CDROM

Well, I looked at the specs and it looks to be able to use a full size cd/dvd drive. THere should be a whole.

Re: Not able to eject CDROM

The CDROM does not eject by itself. The CDROM must be unmounted in HP-UX first. If the umount command does not work (typically: device busy), someone has probably cd'ed into the CDROM directory.

Once the CDROM is unmounted (check bdf) then push the button.
