Novice requests help

I am experimenting with Ignite-UX.

I have set up an HP 9000/735 running HP-UX 11.00 as an Ignite server. (I installed ignite_all_B.3.7.96.depot). I then created a Network Recovery Archive of an HP9000/715/80 machine running HP-UX 10.20. This worked fine. I replaced the root disk with another, and I was able to boot the 715 by interrupting the boot and using the command "boot lan.n.n.n.n install".

My questions are: (i) Is it possible to boot the 715 from the Ignite server end? (ii) How?

Re: Novice requests help

Hi, John

yes it is possible

From the ignite server "installation clients" choose the client iocn.
From action menu chhose "boot client" which will boot that client.

Re: Novice requests help

Ravi,

That works fine if the OS is running on the client, but doesn't if I use a 'new' disk with no OS on it, or if the machine is not booted.

I get:

Fatal error on "client"; (Cannot ping systen, probably down.)

When I try "/opt/ignite/bin/bootsys -wv client" I get the same error.

Re: Novice requests help

John,

If there isn't an OS on the client and it's not "running", then you Can Not PUSH the install.

That's why it's a good idea to have "web" consoles for "remote" servers. I personally prefer Arula's at (http://www.arula.com)

Ravi, Harry,

Thanks for your replies. They weren't the answers I was hoping for, but at least you have saved me trying any more.
