Guys,

got a question and expect only small answer or link gives fairly good idea about it.

What is this "npar" meant to hp 9000 h/w and what it is ?

nPars are Hard Partitions. Only a select few HP-UX machines are capable of this. The rp7405/rp7410, rp8400 and SuperDome on the PA-RISC side and the rx8620 on the Itanium architecture side support nPars.

As others have already made it clear nPar stands for Hard partitions. Only few machines like RP74xx/RP84xx/Superdome and their Itanium counterparts are cabable of having this feature. That is to say you can use a single box as multiple machines. But it is different from the virtual partitions where the core IO card is shared. With nPars you will have separate power and IO domains among partitions. You can either club them all and run as single system or partition them and use it with multiple OSs.

Hi,

As other said nPar is hard partitioning of server.

If you are familier with Sun architecture you can comare it with Sun Fire multi domain concept.
