OMNIBACK problem
Hi
We,very recently converted our root filesystem from HFS to Vxfs, from then on ,we were not able to fire backups. If we fire backups it returns the error "Cannot Open device (No such device or address). Its a peculiar case, where except one device all the other three reports the error stated .And for that one device the backup is going thru' smoothly.
Any advice,appreciated
Cheers and Regards
M.

Re: OMNIBACK problem
I suspect that when you converted the filesystem the device nodes did not get recreated correctly.
From xomni->Devices and Media
Select each device and Edit->Modify and
note the data Device. e.g. /dev/rmt/3mnb
Now do an ls -l /dev/rmt and make sure that the device nodes are there. If not you will need to recreate them via sam or mksf or manually. Also note that what was /dev/rmt/3mnb
on the old filesystem may not be the same device on the new filesystem. Make sure that the long version of the device node name (e.g. /dev/rmt/c2t2d0BESTnb corresponds to the desired short name (/dev/rmt/3mnb). If the device nodes have changed you can modify the entries in OmniBack to match.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: OMNIBACK problem
I agree with the above post. Your drives in omniback do not correspond with the correct device file or drive index. you can usr the mc command to determine what the drive index should be..man mc

Re: OMNIBACK problem
You can check if you have problems with your
device address making a new device in the cell server with other name and the same address,
insert any tape on this and go for restore ->
list from media, if the list is OK, you
need make again yor device.

Mauro
