So we would be switching to 11iV2, itanium.
1. Is anyone building/compiling opensource sw on itanium boxes?
I would be building gcc, binutils, gmake, gd, php, apache, perl, sybperl, jconnect, java, openadapter, gettext, openssl, openssh, zlib, mysql, mod_perl.
Even if I do this, the production box is running PA-Risc.
2. Is it possible to build it all as if it is running on a PA-Risc even though it is on an itanium? (Yeah I know. Looks I already have my answer on Question 2 here. It's a pretty big leap. I should swap out the this production box too).
Any experiences and opinions would be appreciated.
Steve

Re: Opensource products on Itanium?
Been there, done that :)
Start with the porting center's. They have gone through a HUGE improvement over the past few years. The only drawback is that they use too much dependencies: all utils are built *with* nls support, which is IMHO unneeded and pure bloat.
But when you have all the deps installed, they offer very recent builds for anything you need, and update very soon after new releases.
Enjoy, Have FUN! H.Merijn [ who would still choose pa-risc over Itanium ]

And if the connect.org stuff doesn't have something ported, it may be in the HP Internet Express bits, which should be available via software.hp.com for no charge.
