Operating Envirment.

Hi,
I am new to HP platform. I have installed hpux11iv3 in my system.
I want to ask few questions regarding OE's.

Can i have more then one OE in my system. If yes then can i have two OE with different fusion release. Like:-

HPUX11i-BOE B.11.31.0903 HP-UX Base Operating Environment
HPUX11i-DC-OE B.11.31.1003 HP-UX Data Center Operating Environment

No, only one. You probably have the DC-OE one, the one with more features.

Which OE you use depends on what applications you are running on your system.

Re: Operating Envirment.

Hi:

No, only one Operating Environment (OE) is ever installed. The idea of an 'OE' is that of a "super-bundle" containing the core HP-UX software plus suites of products that tailor the server to its environment. Installation is quicker and easier than installing a base OS and individual products. The price structure is also significantly imporoved. See:

If you wish to install a more recent version of a particular OE (or move from [for example] the BOE to the DC-OE, you use 'update-ux'. The newer version replaces the older one. If I recall correctly, you cannot "down-date" an OE.

Not a very well defined entity.

(That's a question???)

Two disks? Most folks might not wish to do
it, but that hardly makes it impossible. If
I can install Debian GNU/Linux, HP-UX, and
VMS on one system, then I'd guess that I
could put a couple of different HP-UX
editions on it.
