We have HP 11.0 U and HP 11.0 A Operating system and plan to install HP 11i.
I would first like to know what is the difference of these three;
( HP 11.0 U, HP 11.0 A and HP 11i ).

The links on this page should give you a nice overview:

Re: operating system version identifier

The best place to look is the /usr/share/doc/11.00RelNotes or the wenb sites mentioned above : also http://www.software.hp.com/HPUX-RDMP/

there wont be much difference between 11.00 A and U the U/A simply relates to the operating system version identifier.

However there are more major differences between 11.00 and 11.i aka 11.11. check the web site etc ...

Re: operating system version identifier

Hi,
This indicates the user licensing level in the system.
1) A - 2 User Licence
2) B - 16 User Licence
3) C - 32 User Licence
4) E - 8 User Licence
4) U - Unlimited User Licence

Did you take a backup?
