Oracle install problem

Oracle install problem

I am trying to install oracle 8.1.7.0.0.

I get all the way to where you can select typical or custom and then it show anywhere from 27% or 43% and locks up and starts giving me the following error.

NFS: not responding still trying.

You can't ever kill the process. The only way I have been able to get out of it is to restart the server.

Please any information in fixing this problem I would be grateful.

Thanks,
David

Re: Oracle install problem

Hi David,

Sounds NFS is having a wobbly.... If you are
not installing the oracle software on the
NFS mount point, try and have it unmounted
during the installation.

Let us know if you require further help. There
is usually someone around....

Re: Oracle install problem

Hi David,

How is the oracle CD mounted. Is it throgh another server as a NFS file system or locally thru the cdrom.

If it is through a nfs server the problem could very well be due to the network traffic or some problem on the NFS server side.

hope this helps.

thanks

Re: Oracle install problem

Actually its most likely a PFS problem as the Oracle install requires the use of PFS. PFS in turn uses NFS.

See this thread...especially the part about using stage areas. If you have the space, I highly recommend it.

Re: Oracle install problem

Hello David,

to show another link about the Oracle8i install
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,1150,0x5de1f9beca68d511abcd0090277a778c,00.html

So, do you have all the proper patches (ld and
such) installed?

Do you have the environment variables (e.g.
DISPLAY, ORACLE_HOME, PATH) set?

Do you have the CD mounted locally (i.e. PFS)
with all the needed options?

Re: Oracle install problem

Hi David,

We had a very similar problem loading Oracle
8.1.6 The final problem turned out to be improper kernel parameters (too low). I would suggest you go back to Oracle folks and ask them for a list of same of a running HP system that is not only the same OS release but also same class of HP.

We went by the Oracle installation requirements
and found out they were not sufficeint.
